The Story of Think Wildlife Foundation

With a population of nearly 1.4 billion people, India is unquestionably one of the fastest-growing economies in the world.  Despite her rapid social and economic development post-independence, India is also a global torchbearer for wildlife conservation. Countless species, ranging from the Bengal Tiger and Gir Lion to the Indian Gharial and Olive Ridley turtles, have been saved from the brink of extinction. Recently, India even reintroduced cheetahs, which became extinct over 70 years ago.  However, the threats facing India’s wildlife are ever-evolving. Rampant habitat loss, exuberated by climate change, has substantially increased human-wildlife conflict across the country. Moreover, following the onset of the pandemic, the illegal wildlife trade continues to flourish, particularly with the help of social media and the dark web!

With this in mind, Think Wildlife Foundation is an initiative launched during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic by a group of students with an innate passion for wildlife. We are working towards tackling the illegal wildlife trade and mitigating human-wildlife conflict through technology, alternative livelihood projects, and extensive research. Moreover, we support the rights of India’s captive elephants, hoping to keep their rescue and rehabilitation from their horrific plight! Think Wildlife Foundation is registered as a Section 8 of the Companies Act 2013.

Our first project was our prominent “Caring for Pari” campaign to raise funds for the rehabilitation of Pari, a former begging elephant rescued in 2021 by Wildlife SOS. You can read more about our projects here. We are working on our “Livelihoods for Conservation” project, aiming to help alternative livelihood projects around India’s forests upscale through e-commerce. Lastly, we are preparing to launch our “AI for Conservation” and “Combatting Conflict Research Project”. Subscribe to our email list for more updates.
